Elvin P. Bentley, 99, of Greensburg, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2011 at 8:37 a.m. at Morning Breeze Health Care at Greensburg. He was born on August 26, 1911 in Decatur County (Jackson Township), Indiana.

He was the son of Joseph Earl and Nellie Gazelle (Biocourt) Bentley. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County.

He had graduated from Letts High School in 1930 and attended Purdue University in 1931. He was a lifelong farmer. Elvin was a member of the Mt. Aerie Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He had been a representative since 1976 for the Gideon International Bible Program. 

He married Bernice C. McDonald on October 18, 1931 in Jackson Township of Decatur County, Indiana. She preceded him in death on August 20, 1982.

Survivors include a daughter, Joan Moore of Westport; a cousin, Mable Webb of Indianapolis; 5 Grandchildren; 11 Great Grandchildren and 12 Great Great Grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, son, Sheridan Ray Bentley; son-in-law, John W. Moore.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating.  Burial will be at the Mt. Aerie Cemetery at Letts. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International Bible Program and Hospice of Decatur County through the funeral home.
