Visitation: Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Masonic Lodge Service

Final Resting Place: Westport Cemetery with Military Graveside Services

Parents: James Lyle and Margaret (Denton) Conwell

HISTORY:

Residential: He was a lifelong resident of Westport.

Education: He graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1941. He attended Indiana University.

Military Service: He had served as a paratrooper with the Marines during WW # 2.

                                Serving with the 5^th Marine Division of I Company with the 3^rd Battalion of the 26^th Marine Regiment.

                                He was wounded at Bougainville and Iwo Jima and received the Purple Heart.

Occupation: He was a road construction engineer for Triangle Construction Company at Bedford.

                      He was the owner of the Westport Natural Gas Company from 1962 until 1988.

Memberships: Decatur County Historical Society

                          Past President of the Westport Kiwanis Club

                          Westport Baptist Church

                          Westport Masonic Lodge # 52 F. & A.M.

                          He was an avid supporter of the Westport Covered Bridge restoration.

Hobbies: He enjoyed gardening and traveling.  He was a history buff.

                    He enjoyed having “Weiner” roasts at his home and inviting people of the community to attend. 

                    He had a strong Love of family, the Westport Community and his country.

2 Sons - Lyle Keith (Linda) Conwell - North Vernon, Indiana

                Kevin (Lisa) Conwell - Westport, Indiana
