Lyle Keith Conwell, aka Mr.
Wonderful, 61, of North Vernon, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at 2:08
p.m. in Westport. He was born on January 20, 1950 in Greensburg, Indiana. He
was the son of Robert Franklin “Bob” and Wilma Jean (Keith) Conwell.
He was raised in Westport and has been a North Vernon resident since 1978. He
graduated in 1968 from Sandcreek High School and attended Indiana State
University. He was a self made carpenter, home designer and builder. He owned
and operated LL Conwell Designer & Builder. He also had owned and operated
Conwell’s Whole Nine Yards carpet, the Woodshed Pizza and Arthur Murray’s Dance
Studio. Keith had been a member of the Boy Scouts of America and had achieved
the rank of Eagle Scout. He had served in the Army Reserves from 1969 until
1975. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, singing, playing the piano and drama where he
was a member of the Jennings County Players, Jackson County Community Theatre
and the Mill Race Players at Columbus.
He married Linda (Stearns) Laman in North Vernon, Indiana on July 27, 1991 and
she survives along with his mother, Wilma Jean Conwell of Westport;
Mother-in-law, Helen Stearns of North Vernon; daughter, Dana (Ryan) Witkemper of
Westport; sons, Todd (Ginger) Conwell of Hartsville, Gregg (Jennifer) Laman of
North Vernon, Clint (Becky) Laman of North Vernon; his sisters, Janice Conwell
of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Judy (Jim) Matthews of Salem, Maribeth Holcomb of
Westport; his brother, Kevin (Lisa) Conwell of Westport; 8 Grandchildren and 1
Great Grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert F. “Bob” Conwell.
The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at
the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. The burial
will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 4:00
until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the donor’s
choice.
