Delmar O. Davis,
Sr. 87, of Westport died at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at his
residence. He was born April 13, 1924 in Wrigley, Kentucky. Mr. Davis was the
son of Thomas William and Mary Lou (Blair) Davis.
He was born and raised in Kentucky, he moved to Indiana in 1950 and has been a
Westport resident for the past 40 years. Mr. Davis worked in the coal mines of
Kentucky and with the civilian conservation corps helping build roads and
railroads. He was a farmer and had retired from Golden Foundry in 1975. Mr.
Davis also worked in construction, as a car dealer and he owned and operated
Davis and Son’s gas station in Westport for 10 years. Mr. Davis was a member of
the American Legion Post # 134 and was a former Westport Kiwanis Club member. As
a hobby he enjoyed truck drag racing. He was married to Betty Jean McCord in
Paris, Kentucky October 17, 1949. She preceded him in death on July 27, 1993.
Survivors include his daughters, Carolyn (Mike) Watkins of Westport, Wanda (Kenny) Dean of Greensburg, and Dolly (Hershel) Young of Glendale, Arizona; his sons, James (Jackie) Penn of North Vernon, Delmar (Connie) Davis, Jr. of Westport, Tony Davis of Westport and Todd (Angie) Davis of Westport; his sisters, Letha Conley of Wrigley, Kentucky, Juanita (Duke) Wilbin of Aberdeen, North Carolina and Stella (Lynn) Caskey of Grayson, Kentucky; his brothers Corbie Davis of Mt. Sterling, Kentucky and Clayton Davis of Wrigley, Kentucky; 24 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and several cousins, nieces and nephews. Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 3 grandsons, James Penn Jr, Delmar Reece Davis III, Nathan Lucas; a granddaughter Christi Hobbs; a great great granddaughter Macy Monserrat Hobbs; 3 brothers, Carl Caskey, Curtis Davis and Gordon Davis; a brother-in-law, Willie Conley; two daughter-in-laws, Kim Davis and Brenda Penn; two sister-in-laws, Bessie Davis and Wilma Davis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Officiating will be Rev. Paul Mills and Rev. Don Bates. Burial will at the Westport Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 until 8:00 on Tuesday, August 16, 2011.
Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Hospice of
South Central Indiana or to the family to help with funeral expenses.
