Melvin Charles Cathey, 91, of Greensburg, passed away at 4:23 a.m. on Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at the Morning Breeze Healthcare Center. He was born on June 3, 1927 in Decatur County, the son of Lester Joseph and Pearl Honeydew (Hanshew) Cathey. He had been a lifelong resident of Decatur County and member of the Westport Baptist Church. He retired from Delta Faucet in 1992 after 33 years of service and was a farmer. He was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during World War 2. He married Lou Ellen Pollitt in Milroy on November 1, 1947. She preceded him in death on September 1, 1988. He married Mary Margaret Pollitt in Westport on March 18, 1989 and she survives. Also surviving are daughters, Vivian Adams of Greensburg, Marsha (John) Walstad of Hope, Sandra (Randy) Schnier of Westport, Patricia (Rick) Napper of Greensburg, Barbara (Andrew) Gaynor of Greensburg; son, Ronald (Wendy) Cathey of Greensburg; step daughters, Pamela Cox of Virginia, Ruth Ann Crumbley of Daphne, Alabama; step sons, Steve (Michelle) Clark of Columbus, Mike (Wanda) Clark of St. Paul, Norman Clark of Texas; 15 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; 4 step-great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Janet Lynn Cathey; sister, Violet Case; brothers, Glen Cathey, James W. Cathey and George Cathey. Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2019 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with Pastor John Marquis officiating. Burial will be at the Westport Cemetery with military graveside rites. Family will receive visitors on Sunday, February 10, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Westport Community Volunteer Fire Department.
