Lou Hartwell, 74, of Westport passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at 9:00
a.m. at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility at Columbus.
She was born on July 2, 1936 in Greensburg the daughter of Jasper E. and Louise (Barclay) McCullough. She graduated from Sandcreek High School, Franklin College and Ball State University. Mrs. Hartwell was a teacher for 32 years in Jennings County and Hamilton County. She was a member of Decatur County Retired Teachers, Assoc., Delta Kappa Gamma, PSI IOTA XI Sorority – Zeta Nu chapter and retired teachers association. She was a member of Christ Way Christian church at North Vernon. She had been a Sunday School Teacher at North Vernon Christian Church, member of the Women’s Group at Christ Way Christian Church, worked with Bible School, the Jennings County Classroom Teachers’ Group. She enjoyed working in the yard, reading and her pets, Milly and Coco-bear.
She married Robert K. Hartwell in Westport on April 7, 1958. She is survived by her husband, Robert K. Hartwell of Westport; sons, Benjamin Keith Hartwell of Batesville, Robert Edwin (Sue) Hartwell of Bronxville, New York; daughter, Beverly Lou (Doug) Thompson of Greenwood; grandchildren, Hannah Hartwell and Alex Hartwell of Bronxville, New York. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, April 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with the Rev. Dr. Robert E. Hartwell and Rev. Dan Denney officiating. Burial will take place at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Christ Way Christian Church at North Vernon through the funeral home.
