Virginia Aileen Jackson, 90 of Alert, passed away at her residence on Sunday, September 12, 2010 at 9:05 a.m.
She was born on June 1, 1920 to Cash Earl and Iva Grace (Ault) Garloch in Brown County, Indiana. Her father passed away when she was four years old and her mother married Charles Morris, whom she always referred to as “Dad”. She was raised in Columbus and graduated from Columbus High School in 1938. She married Howard E. Jackson on December 2, 1938 in Columbus. He preceded her in death on September 12, 1962. She has been a resident of the Alert Community since 1979.
She had worked for Devening Block Company of Columbus for 20 years as a bookkeeper. She was a member of the Bear Creek Baptist Church and a former member of the Bethel Baptist Church of Columbus. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her hobbies were ceramics, crafts, reading and bowling. Her bowling took her to Florida for a national tournament. She was the owner of a USAC Race Car. She enjoyed traveling and had been to Canada, Paris, London, Amsterdam, Bermuda and to South and Central America.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Robert) Gant of Westport; her son, Jerry L. (Sharon Hawk) Jackson of Fayetteville, Ohio; her brother Richard (Mae) Morris of Muncie; grandchildren, Michael Jackson of Jacksonville, Florida, Jill Jackson of Louisville, Kentucky, Kyleen Kimberly (Chad) Smith of Seneca, South Carolina, Paula (Jack) Neukam of Westport, Stacy Gant of Westport, Jackilyn (Mark) Mayhugh of Osgood and Taylor Nolting of Greensburg, several nieces and nephews, nine grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters; Maxine Kelly, Mildred Henry and Rosemary Bowman; brothers, Jack and Donald Morris.
Graveside Services will be conducted on Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bethel Baptist Cemetery at Columbus with the Rev. Robert Estes and Rev. Connie Barr officiating. The visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Bear Creek Baptist Church south of Alert.
Bass & Gasper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Decatur County through the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home.
