Franklin Jonathan Layton

Franklin Jonathan Layton, 90, of Westport, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at 7:00 a.m. in Clayton, Indiana. He was born on September 24, 1921 in Crooksville, Ohio the son of William I. and Ruth Esther (Hoy) Layton. He had lived most of his life in Westport and had lived in Port Charlotte, Florida from 1986 to 2005. He had graduated from Westport High School in 1939. He retired from Mobil Oil Company after 27 years of service and from the Westport Post Office after 10 years of service. He was a member of the South Biscayne Baptist Church in Port Charlotte, Florida and past member and President of the Westport Kiwanis Club. He enjoyed fishing in Florida. He was a veteran having served 1 year with the US Signal Corps and 2˝ years with the 4^th Air Drome Sq. D. of the US Air Force in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands.

He married Dorothy A. Keith in Westport on April 5, 1942 and she preceded him in death on May 25, 2010. Survivors include his sons, Ronald Keith (Karin) Layton of Fort Wayne, Jonnie Wayne (Judy) Layton of Clayton, Jeffery Brian (Pam) Layton of Columbus; 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 7 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death his parents; his wife, Dorothy A. Layton; his sisters, Wanda Hutton, Betty Dell Warble and Wilma Irene Sheldon.

The funeral will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 23, 2011 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with the Rev. Jerry Day and Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. Friends and family may call on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the through the funeral home to the Alzheimer’s Association.
