Jason L. R. Ponsler

Jason L. R. Ponsler, 65, of Westport, died at 6:45 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility at Columbus.  

Jason was born on November 17, 1945 in Greensburg, Indiana.  He was the son of William Lee “Bill” and Lila (Davis) Ponsler.

He was lifelong resident of Westport and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1963. He had worked for the Cummins Engine Company, the Soil Conservation Service and was a farmer. He was a veteran having served with the US Army during Vietnam and a member of the Westport American Legion Post # 339, Member of the Greensburg VFW Post # 5584, Member of the South Decatur Baptist Church and had attended the Westport Wesleyan Church. He enjoyed drag racing, working on cars, woodworking and carpentry.

He married Susan K. Walsmann on December 31, 1970 at Westport. She survives along with his daughter, Sonja (Terry) Anderson of Madison; his sons, Jon (Dee Anne) Ponsler of North Vernon, Judd Ponsler and Jason (Shana) Ponsler both of Westport and Joshua (Amanda) Ponsler of Hanover; his sisters, Virginia R. (Greg) Allen and Merrilyn H. (Robert) Hamilton both of Westport; his brother, James W. L. (Marianne) Ponsler of Westport; and 8 grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Jody Wesemann and sister, Bonnie Sue Ponsler. 

The funeral will be conducted by Rev. Gary East at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, January 24, 2011 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Union Baptist Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites. Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Hospice of South Central Indiana.
