John W. Pyles, 73, of Westport, Indiana died at 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.  Mr. Pyles was born on October 11, 1937 at Alert, Indiana.  He was the son of Howard and Joeva M. (Hamilton) Pyles. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and had graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1955. He had retired in 1995 from Cummins Engine Company after 32 years of service. He also had worked at the Decatur Garage in Westport. He was a member of the Westport Baptist Church and the Westport American Legion Post # 339. He was a veteran having served in the US Army and had been stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. He enjoyed woodworking, restoring old homes and old cars, gardening, fishing and car shows. He married Mary Lou Spurlock from Vernon in Westport on May 16, 1964.  She survives, along with his mother, Joeva M. Pyles; his daughters, Rachel M. Wilkerson of Fort Wayne, Loretta Biddinger and Suzie (Bryan) Petty both of Westport; his sisters,  Dorothy (Bob) Kirby of North Vernon, Catherine (Bob) Fisher of Cleveland, Texas and Sharon (Paul) Kirby of Beech Grove; his brother, Raymond (Paula) Pyles of  Westport; his grandchildren, Emily and Erica Wilkerson, Jacob & Kristen Fenley, Karah Biddinger and Sydney and Trenten Petty.  He was preceded in death by his father Howard Pyles. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m on Monday, December 27, 2010 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Officiating will be the Reverands Paul Kirby, Bob Kirby and Della Hamilton.  Burial will take place at the Westport Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Sunday, December 26, 2010 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Center or to Hospice of Decatur County.
