Joeva M. Pyles, 93, of Westport, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, July 10,
2011 at the Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was born on November
19, 1917 in Decatur County. She was the daughter of Joseph and Rachel Ellen
(Castor) Hamilton. She was a lifelong resident of Decatur County. She was a
member of the Westport Baptist Church. She enjoyed gardening and sewing.
She married Howard Pyles in Greensburg, on September 30, 1936 and he preceded
her in death on May 3, 1993. Survivors include her daughters, Dorothy (Bob)
Kirby of North Vernon; Catherine (Bob) Fisher of Cleveland, Texas; Sharon (Paul)
Kirby of Beech Grove; her son, Raymond (Paula) Pyles Westport; her
daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Pyles of Westport; 12 grandchildren and 23 great
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard Pyles;
son, John W. Pyles; brothers, Clifton, George, Dan, Norman and Raymond Hamilton;
half sister, Druzie Sebright and half brother, Leo Castor.
The funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, July 12, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at
the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with the Rev. David A. Scaggs
officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation
will be held from Noon until time of service on Tuesday.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana through the funeral home.
