Place of Burial: Silver Creek Cemetery with Military Graveside Services.
Visitation: Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on
Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 with a Masonic Service at 8:00 p.m.
Visitation will also be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.
on Friday at the church.

History:
Residential: He was raised in the Sellersburg area. He had been a resident of Decatur County for the past 45 years.
Education: He graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1951 and from Purdue University in 1959.
Military Service: He was Veteran having served with the US Army.
Occupation: He had retired in 1994 from USDA Soil Conservation Service after 32 years of service.
Memberships: Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church where he was serving as Chairman of the Church Council, Trustee and choir member.
34 year member of the Letts Volunteer Fire Dept. He had served as Fire Chief two
times and was currently serving on the board of
Directors. He and his wife cooked fish for the first Letts Fish Fry. He worked
on and designed several of the fire trucks for the
department. He taught at the State Fire Schools on rural fire fighting and water
supply. He also designed many of the draft basins
that are currently being used in Decatur and surrounding counties for rural
water supply sites for the fire departments.
President of the board of directors of Decatur County Rural Water. His passion was to bring safe drinking water to all of rural Decatur County.
Westport Masonic Lodge # 52 F.& A.M.
Served many years as the County Chairman of the Cheer Fund.
PTO President of Washington Township Elementary School.
Involved and helped with local Boy Scouts.
Coach of Ersel’s Angels Softball team.
Past director of Decatur County Emergency Management
Past President of the Decatur County Fireman’s Association
He received the Westport Kiwanis Community Service Award in 2005.
Hobbies: He enjoyed gardening, hunting and feeding the birds.
