Pauline Lavon Schwering

Pauline Lavon Schwering, 78 of Westport, passed away at 11:33 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis.  She was born on  August 29, 1932 in Indianapolis. She was the daughter of Noah David and Lola Edith (Fitch) Carr. 

She was raised in Decatur County and was a former resident of Seymour and Greensburg. She had been a resident of Westport since 1995. She graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1951. She retired from Decatur County Memorial Hospital after 46 years of service. She was a member of St. Denis Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing bingo and embroidering. She married Norbert C. Schwering at St. Denis Catholic Church on May 16, 1953 and he preceded her in death on April 2, 1981. Survivors include daughters, Diana (Mike) Tichenor of Westport and Norma Jean Schwering of Kokomo; sons, Eugene (Amy) Schwering of North Vernon and Darryl (Diane) Schwering of Shelbyville; brothers, Paul (Jean) Carr of Columbus and Danny Bill Carr of Westport; 9 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9, 2011 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home at Westport with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Sunday, May 8, 2011 from 2:00 until 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Diabetes Association or the Aging & Community Services of South Central Indiana.
