Marie Slone

Marie Slone, 88, of Greensburg, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at Heritage House Nursing Home of Greensburg. She was born on June 18, 1923 in Mallie, Kentucky the daughter of Clabern and Sally (Sparkman) Short. She was born and raised in Kentucky and moved to Decatur County in 1956. She owned, operated and administrated the Slone Nursing Home for 30 years. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She married Johnie K. Slone in Hazard, Kentucky on January 6, 1943 and he preceded her in death on August 27, 2000.

She is survived by her daughter, Judy (Earl) Wright of Greensburg; her sons, DeVaughn Slone of Gainsville, Florida, David Slone of Greensburg; her sister, Polly Pigman of Wilmington, Ohio; her brother Wesley Short of Reynolds Fork, Kentucky; her 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 9 Brothers and Sisters. Private Graveside Services for the family will be held on Friday, December 2, 2011 at Mt. Aerie Cemetery. The Bass & Gasper Funeral Home and Crematory were entrusted with the services.

Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Hospice of South Central Indiana or the Alzheimer’s Association.
