James M. Hicks, 60, of Columbus, Indiana passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, July 17, 2020 at his residence. He was born on April 7, 1960 in San Antonio, Texas, the son of Hershel & Yolanda (Machorro) Hicks. He worked and had retired from doing concrete finishing in the construction industry. He recently worked as an Uber Lift driver. He was a Veteran having served with the US Army. He was past president of the Eagles Lodge in North Vernon and a member of the Moose Lodge in North Vernon. He enjoyed playing pool, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He graduated from Ball High School in Galveston Texas. James is survived by his father, Hershel Hicks of Lewisville, Texas; his daughters, Crystal Lawrence of Columbus and Jackie (David) Lacey of North Vernon; his son, Robert Hicks of Columbus; his sisters, Roanne (Keith) Martinez of Kingwood, Texas, Sylvana (Kenneth) Lane of Heartland, Texas; his brothers, Vincent (Mercedes) O’Merry of Chula Vista, California and Joseph Hicks of Abilene, Texas; his half-brother, Hershel Hicks of Lewisville, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother, Yolanda O’Merry and step father, Jim O’Merry. Following his wishes he will be cremated and a service will held at a later date at the Veterans Cemetery at Madison Indiana.
