Ronald Lee Lucas, 87, of Westport, passed away at 1:48 p.m. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at the Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born on February 2, 1934 in Freedom, Indiana the son of Howard Freeman and Marie May (Thompson) Lucas. He was raised in Columbus and has been a Westport resident since 1998. He had graduated from Columbus High School in 1952. He had received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Purdue University in 1981 and received a Masters of Divinity Degree from Christian Theological Seminary. Ron was a minister for the United Methodist Church and was a member of the Southern Indiana United Methodist Conference. He retired in 1998 while serving the Mitchell United Methodist Church. Other United Methodist churches that he served were; Rock Creek, Oak Grove, Hayden, Taylorsville, Clifford, Old Union, Leipsic, Monroe City, Walnut Grove, Welton Chapel, Hamline Chapel, Indianapolis, Lizton and Oakland City. Ron was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He married Colleen Mae Quick in Indianapolis on August 11, 1958 and she survives, along with his sons, Brian Lucas of Madison and Michael Lucas of Mineral City, Ohio; his daughters, Karen Wright of Madison and Teresa Anson of Vincennes; his 7 grandchildren and his 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Merlin "Pete" Lucas, Howard Lucas, Jr., William Joseph Lucas and Lloyd Thurman Lucas; his sisters, Vivian Lucas, Betty Lucas, Ann Kirtley and Marilyn Verbosky. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 8th, 2022 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Stephens officiating. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Following his wishes Ron he will be cremated and a burial will be held later at the Westport Cemetery. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines inside the funeral home and masks are recommended.
