Johnnie Callahan, 87, of Westport, passed away at 5:39 p.m. on Saturday August 10, 2024 at the Willows of Greensburg. He was born on May 18,1937 in Viper, Kentucky. The son of Corbin and Raney (Stacy) Callahan. John worked at the Chevrolet garage in Kentucky and moved to Westport, Indiana in 1960. He was employed at Bohn Aluminum, Wickes and MLKS Corporation which was all in the same building in Greensburg, Indiana but changed names throughout the decades of his 41-year career. In 1963 Johnnie met Ellen Low of Westport. John and Ellen were married in 1965 and celebrated 59 wonderful years together. They had a daughter Tina S. Kramer. In 2004, John retired and spent his favorite times with family. He was an outdoorsman and over the years enjoyed hunting, gardening, raising farm animals and riding horses. Walking was his favorite hobby. He walked on the family farm, along the country roads where many neighbors would stop to talk. He also liked to travel, especially trips with his wife Ellen and family. He also enjoyed attending his daughter's and grandchildren's sporting events over the years. He is survived by Wife, Ellen D. Callahan, Daughter, Tina S. Kramer, Kenneth L. Kramer, Grandchildren, Jordan L. (Cheyenne) Kramer of Indianapolis, Stacy E. Kramer of Phoenix, Great-Grandchild, Calvin L. Kramer, Siblings, Rose Pratt of Kentucky, Jim (Bertha) Callahan of North Vernon, Isaac (Bonnie) Callahan of Westport, Racheal (Ronnie) Moffett of Greensburg, Coolie (Joyce) Callahan of Missouri, Harold Callahan of Westport, Berniece (Tom) Vanderpohl of Laurel and numerous nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Leonard Callahan, Emily Brancamp, Vada Tucker and Corbin Junior Callahan. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday August 15, 2024 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Burial will be at the Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association through the funeral home.
